Welcome and Introduction

Public Input

  • The state board has developed new rules for sex education in middle and high school. You can review the new rules and standards on the USBE website and there will be a public input meeting for Northern Utah on December 18 th at 6:00 pm at the Cache County School District Offices.

Hillcrest Mission

  • Ensure all students at Hillcrest are learners with skills to reach their dreams and succeed.

Budget update (spencer)

  • We are expending our funds down as planned, we’re looking good to not carry funds over into next year. Teachers have started ordering their supplies that we approved, Andrea reported that Kindergarten has received the materials and started using them in their STEM rotations.
  • Our distribution has been adjusted by $3,391, so we will have additional funds to expend.

Update on State Community Council Training (sheli)

  • Sheli attended a training by the state. Some follow-up items:
    • We need to have updated contact information on the website.
    • Sara will get Sheli a list of the school community council terms.
    • We need to check to make sure it’s okay to have an “up to” number of members and that we aren’t held to a specific number.
    • We have several people that have attended that we can appoint to join at an upcoming meeting.
    • There are no people on our roster that aren’t attending.
    • We are still missing diversity on our SCC. Spencer and Avery have reached out to the Hispanic committee to get better participation and input. They will keep trying to get better minority representation on the SCC and to provide input in other ways.

Follow-up on grade levels spending

  • At our last meeting, the only request we received from 2 nd grade was a request from Mrs. Stock to buy ipads for Mrs. Lichfield’s class and a request for $280 for headphones.
    • Profesora Dias – Portugese games and books for $250.00.
    • New request for Mrs. Lichfield to get Chromebooks instead of ipads.
  • Motion to vote to approve $2000 for second grade expenses - $250 for Profesora Dias’ Portugese materials and $1750 for Chromebook and/or headphones. Mr. Holmgren will meet with the second grade team to decide how much of the money will be spent on headphones and how much on Chromebooks. He may supplement our funds with additional funds to meet the need for additional items.

English language learner data/Math data

  • Spencer shared proficiency data for the past three years for students with Limited English Proficiency and Students with Disabilities. We looked at proficiency data for each group from 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 in Langauge Arts, Mathematics and Science.
  • Data show that these groups are struggling with proficiency.
    • 2017-18
      • Limited English Proficiency
        • Language arts – 17.4% proficient
        • Math – 13.0% proficient
        • Science – 20-19% proficient
      • Students with Disabilities
  • What is the school doing about it?
    • Training all teachers in ESL instructional programs: Pathways to Proficiency and Rigorous Reading
    • Utilizing Imagine Learning with incoming ESL students
    • Level 1 and Level 2 students are pulled for ESL instruction, Level 3 and Level 4 stay for all instruction in the classroom
    • Starting an ESL task-force
      • Learned about this at a conference that Mr. Holmgren and a group of teachers went to because it has worked in other school systems
      • Will include teachers, professionals, university people, community members
      • If you know people who could contribute to this work, please let Spencer know. Sara will introduce him to Eduardo Ortiz at USU’s CPD
    • Looking to promote learning in the summer because those kids aren’t attending current summer programs
      • Teachers have a plan to push learning into their neighborhoods next summer
