Minutes

  • Hillcrest Mission
  • Review and Approve January Minutes
    • Heather Fairbank motioned to approve; Debbie Brough seconded; unanimous vote by those present to approve the December minutes.
  • Budget update
    • Update on spending, all approved expenditures are now happening.
    • We will carry over less than 10% of the 2021-22 budget into next year, good news in a year when it’s been hard to find people and spend money.
  • DLI Update
    • Shared enrollment numbers for 1 st grade for Fall – 50+ Spanish, nearly 40 Portuguese
    • Last day for school choice and DLI enrollment is February 18th
    • Planning to send a postcard before then to all of the households in district boundaries
    • Request: Please include all-day kindergarten registration information on the postcard as well
  • 2022-23 School Improvement Plan
    • Review data from Hillcrest and Bridger for students who will likely attend Hillcrest in 2022-23.
    • Respond to the following guiding questions:
      • What is/are the school's area(s) of greatest academic need?
      • What goals will help the school address the areas of need
      • What do students/teachers need to know and do to accomplish the goal?
      • How will students and teachers be supported in their efforts
    • Data reviewed:
    • Strong academic needs for English learners persist as we’ve seen in previous years
    • Much greater needs in math than in English/Language Arts
      • Could be because we’ve focused on reading and the LETRS training teacher are participating in
      • Not as much coaching in math
      • Math is more abstract, kids don’t have math literacy and as they get into higher grades, language is needed for math
      • A lot of overlap between English learners and students with disabilities
      • Need to make sure they are getting appropriate accommodations on assessments
    • Discuss potential expenditures for 2022-23.
      • Mr. Holmgren surveyed teachers and received the following ideas
      • Discussed multiple ideas including focusing ongoing LETRS training on more math language
      • Math coaches or interventionists could be helpful
  • Public Input
  • Next Steps
