Minutes

Next Meeting:

  • Hillcrest Mission
  • Review and Approve September Minutes
    • All in favor
  • Budget update
    • Teacher allocation seems a bit high. Spencer wonders if BTS teacher (dance), counselor are listed.
    • Aubrey has been a great asset. She is overseen by Tyler Renshaw. She is from the Psychology department at USU. She is a grad student. She is very professional. If we are able, we would like to see it as a permanent fixture at our school. State and district are moving towards more mental health services in the school.
    • Track data to show the benefit of these services. We have baseline data already. Teacher could possibly fill it out again to show growth.
    • Possibly have Aubrey speak with students prior to standardized testing to help develop growth mindset and mindfulness.
    • Ask Aubrey how she is tracking and how it can be formalized for evidence.
    • Cole Thomas has seen great benefit. Students that were in Heather Fairbank's class continue to see Aubrey.
  • Schoolwide DIBELS update
    • DIBELS is used statewide. It allows us to compare with other schools/districts and how we are growing.
    • Grades K-2
      • K-2 has state mandated goals. District has created goals that have been approved by the state
      • Goal
        • Kinder: Move 28% of the number of students to blue/green
        • First: Move 11% of the number of students to blue/green.
    • Grades 3-5
      • Goals
        • Move 8% for students at benchmark
        • Move 7% for students above benchmark
        • Move 12% for our students at benchmark ELL subgroup
        • Move 4% for our above benchmark ELL subgroup.
    • Hillcrest is starting at a higher level compared to the district/state.
    • Hillcrest: 52% in red, 16% in yellow
LCSD: 46% in red, 24% in yellow
State: 45% in red, 14% in yellow
    • Fluency is a need schoolwide.
    • We use this data to determine the literacy needs of students. Students meet for interventions one-on-one or in small groups. (phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension).
    • Can we look at the data each year and see which grades need the most support? (e.g. First grade, third grade). How can we support the grades with the most needs?
    • Be an advocate for all day kindergarten and an all day aide for kindergarten.
    • Separate data from ELL students who have attended Hillcrest k-5 vs. later arriving students.
  • ELL Consultant Proposals
    • We will be reviewing the proposal after the visit of Christelle Estrada to the school on Oct. 22nd.
  • Public Input
    • November 5, 2021 @ 7am
